Ubuntu -- Linux for Human Beings

Ubuntu is a Free, open source operating system that starts with the breadth of Debian and adds regular releases (every six months), a clear focus on the user and usability (it should "Just Work ™") and a commitment to security updates with 18 months of support for every release. Ubuntu ships with the latest GNOME release as well as a selection of server and desktop software that makes for a comfortable desktop experience off a single installation CD.

Ubuntu India

Ubuntu India is the official Indian Local Community team.

Our aims

  • Our main aim is to act as a single access point for Ubuntu users and developers in India, and provide them with necessary information and resources.
  • Co-ordinate all the Ubuntu related matters that are relevant to India in any context.
  • Represent Ubuntu in every FOSS Event in India and carry out initatives for such events.
  • Create awareness about Free & Open Source software and specially Ubuntu in India and carry out events and meetings to increase usage of Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Edubuntu at local schools, colleges and IT Enabled Areas.

How to join

  1. Create a Launchpad account.
  2. Join the Indian Team on Launchpad.
  3. Add yourself to Community Members page, and create your own wikipage.
  4. Join mailing list or discussion list . The primary list is on Ubuntu-IN Mailing List , get involved in Ubuntu advocacy, development, talks, help on Ubuntu for new users's and provide friendly support in your local community and language. It's also recommended that you read the Mailing list FAQ.
  5. Join the Ubuntu support and discussion IRC channel: #ubuntu-in on irc.freenode.net, please read Freenode FAQ and our IRC FAQ for more information on using freenode and IRC, and please try to follow our IRC Guidelines while using IRC.
  6. Join the Ubuntu India forums: http://ubuntu.techjugaad.com/
  7. You can form your local team and add it to the Regional Teams page.
